Jørgen Rosbach appointed as new Minister responsible for the Large-Scale Hydropower Tender in Greenland

Jørgen Rosbach was elected to the Parliament in March 2025 as a member of the party Demokraatit. During his first year in Parliament, he has taken an active role in discussions on Greenland’s economic development, infrastructure and energy opportunities. His focus on developing new economic opportunities in Greenland provide a strong foundation for his new responsibilities as Minister responsible for the large-scale hydropower tender.

Since taking responsibility for the area earlier this year, Minister Rosbach has spent his first months getting to know the hydropower project.

As part of this work, he travelled to Kangerlussuaq, Kangaamiut and Maniitsoq from 26–28 May, where he held public meetings about the upcoming tender. More than 100 residents attended the three meetings in total. The meetings provided an opportunity to present the status of the tender process while also listening to local perspectives and concerns. Topics discussed included local employment and education opportunities, environmental and nature considerations as well as the potential economic benefits for local communities.

Prequalification expected in October

The Government of Greenland expects to publish the prequalification in October 2026, marking an important milestone in the competitive tender process.

Minister Jørgen Rosbach looks forward to taking responsibility for the project and bringing the tender process to its next important stage:

“I am pleased to take on the responsibility for this important project. Greenland has significant hydropower resources and I look forward to moving the process forward and completing the project. Publishing the prequalification in October will be an important milestone, and we are working to ensure that the process is transparent and creates the best possible foundation for the future development of these hydropower resources,” says Rosbach.

The Government will continue its dialogue with potential investors and other relevant stakeholders in preparation for the upcoming tender. The aim is to establish a transparent and competitive process that reflects Greenland’s environmental, social and economic conditions while creating a strong foundation for the successful development of the hydropower resources.

Participating in Arctic Circle Assembly 2026

Minister Rosbach will also participate in the upcoming Arctic Circle Assembly in Reykjavík on 8–10 October 2026. The minister wlecomes the opportunity to meet withstakeholders and engage in dialogie during the Assembly.
