The energy sector is a key area in Greenland’s path toward sustainable development. Hydropower, in particular, holds significant promise as a cornerstone of the country’s green transition. The upcoming tender of the largest and most thoroughly researched hydropower potentials in Greenland marks an important step in unlocking this potential, and Minister Naaja. H. Nathanielsen issues the following statement:

“I am excited to continue the important work with attracting investors to Greenland’s largest hydropower potentials. I see great potential for the transformation of our untapped natural resources into an energy source that can be of benefit for Greenland, the project owners and end-consumers. We are moving forward with the tender process, and in this context, I welcome dialogue with both international and national stakeholders, including potential developers, and investors.”

On this basis, the Government of Greenland invites interested developers and investors to participate in a market dialogue by responding to a Request for Information (RfI). The purpose of this RfI is to support the Government of Greenland in identifying relevant offtake industries and assessing their significance for Greenland’s development, and to ensure that the competitive process reflects Greenland’s unique conditions while remaining aligned with market expectations.

The Government of Greenland is diligently progressing with the tender process and welcomes stakeholder contributions to help strengthen the upcoming tender, in accordance with the process plan, please see process plan here.

Furthermore, the Government of Greenland intends to publish a series of analyses and reports that may be of value to potential developers and investors in preparing high-level project descriptions, outlining the key elements of their proposed hydropower projects and associated offtake industries.
